It’s urgent! Connect with your local EMS

“It’s all in the name…first responders. They are the first professionals on the scene when there is a senior in crisis. As a local expert on meeting the needs of seniors, It’s up to you to make sure that the local agencies are as informed as possible,” Adrienne advises ADage clients.

The definition of “first responder” isn’t exactly standardized. Technically, any person with specialized training who is among the first to arrive and provide assistance at the scene of an emergency, such as an accident, natural disaster, or terrorist attack. We will refer to first responders in this context to encompass paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, search rescue teams and other trained members of organizations connected with this type of work, including public safety communications officials (e.g., 911 call center personnel) and correctional officers, are also considered first responders.

Consider how you can help – does the typical EMS training offer deep insight into dementia-specific behaviors? Not traditionally. Does your community offer a unique solution to bridge the gap between hospital and home? Let the word out! What better audience to support and educate?

The process is as easy as 1, 2, 3…seriously.
